One of Europe's largest Thai street food festivals on the Heiligengeistfeld – authentic Thai cuisine, live music from Thailand, and dance performances
The Thai diaspora in Hamburg is among the smaller ones in Germany, but it is visibly present in the cityscape through numerous restaurants, small grocery importers, and massage studios. The Thailand Festival has been the largest public event of this diaspora for several years, attracting visitors far beyond the Hamburg Thai community: German Thailand fans, tourists, foodies, and families.
The Heiligengeistfeld – located between St. Pauli, Karoviertel, and Schanze – is Hamburg's central open-air festival ground. It hosts the Hamburger Dom, Schlagermove, Harbor Birthday concerts, and the Active City Arena; the Thailand Festival is one of the few purely culinary-cultural events that utilize the large area. The row of stalls with Thai chefs forms the center, alongside the stage with live music and dance, complemented by sales areas for textiles and massage studios.
The gastronomic offerings cover the entire spectrum of Thai cuisine: Pad Thai, Gai Yang (Grilled Chicken), Massaman Curry, Tom Yum, Som Tam (Green Papaya Salad), Khao Soi, Moo Ping (Pork Skewers), Mango Sticky Rice, Roti, fresh coconut, Thai iced tea. Many stalls are run by Hamburg-based Thai chefs, supplemented by guest chefs from other German cities or directly from Thailand.
Artists from Thailand perform on stage, traveling especially for the festival. The program includes classical Thai music (Khaen, Saw, Pi), modern Thai pop acts, dance performances (both classical like Khon and Lakhon, and contemporary), and comedy acts for the Thai community. Additionally, massage demonstrations, Muay Thai fights, and workshops are offered.
The Thailand Festival complements the series of intercultural diaspora festivals in Hamburg's event calendar: Newroz Festival (Kurdish), Polonia Music Festival (Polish), Alafia Afrika Festival, Hamburg Latin Festival, Vegetarian Festivals, and many more. In the state of Hamburg, it is one of the largest street food festivals of the summer and is attended by both the Thai community and the general Hamburg public.
The 2026 edition continues the established format: two days of open-air street food festival with a musical program, a broadly diversified stall mile, and an audience that includes the Hamburg Thai community as well as a generally interested city public. The stalls are run by Hamburg-based Thai chefs, supplemented by guest chefs from other cities or direct arrivals from Thailand.
The stage program alternates between classical Thai music, modern Thai pop acts, and dance performances. Some artists travel for the German tour and perform in several cities, while others come exclusively for the Hamburg event. Muay Thai demonstrations and massage show stalls complement the offerings.
Detailed stage program will be announced shortly before the date via thailandfestivals.de and WhatsApp channels.
