About Maikirmes
Maikirmes — edition 2026
The 2026 Maikirmes brings two premieres to the Werne area: the 'Kuhnos Farm' family roller coaster with a farm theme and the new 'Avengers' action ride — a modern giant wheel with hanging, rotating gondolas. Classic rides (Twister, Love Express, Autoscooter) complement the programme on the market square, while three dedicated children's rides are located 'Auf dem Berg'. The city centre is completely car-free, with several parking lots on the outskirts.

Maikirmes Werne — the four-day spring funfair in Westphalian Hellweg
When May begins in Werne, the Maikirmes arrives: From May 1st to 4th, 2026, the city centre of this Westphalian town will become a fairground for four days with rides, food stalls, and a stage programme. The opening hours are clearly scheduled: daily from 2 PM to 10 PM, free admission, the city centre will be completely closed to car traffic.
Opening on Friday — Barrel Organ Procession for a Good Cause
The official opening will take place on Friday, May 1st, 2026 at 5 PM at the traditional Arens bar. Afterwards, a barrel organ procession will wind its way through the funfair grounds — the collected donations will go to a local charitable cause. A charming tradition that gives the Werner Maikirmes its specific character.
New for 2026 — Two Premieres
The Maikirmes 2026 brings two exciting new attractions to the Werne area:
Kuhnos Farm — the Family Roller Coaster
'Kuhnos Farm' is a new family roller coaster with a farm theme. An ideal introductory roller coaster for children and parents — the roller coaster travels through a colourfully designed farm setting with animals, a barn, and fields.
Avengers — the Giant Wheel with Hanging Gondolas
"Avengers" is a state-of-the-art giant wheel ride: Hanging gondolas rotate and move up and down simultaneously. For adrenaline seekers, one of the most spectacular attractions on the tour.
Classic Rides on the Market Square
The established funfair classics line up on the market square:
- Twister — the fast-round ride
- Love Express — the fast roller coaster variant
- Autoscooter — the classic for all generations
- Throwing stalls, shooting galleries, wheel of fortune stalls
- Food stalls with bratwurst, crêpes, potato pancakes, almonds
Auf dem Berg — the Children's Funfair
Three dedicated children's rides are located on the 'Auf dem Berg' site:
- Children's Autoscooter
- Circus Circus — children's carousel with a circus theme
- Wendler's Kinderparadies — small indoor carousel for the very youngest
A deliberate spatial separation: The big action rides on the market square, the children's funfair a few steps away on the hill — families can switch between the two areas relaxed.
Family Day on Monday, May 4th, 2026
The traditional Family Day on Monday, May 4th, 2026 offers special prices and discounts at many rides. Probably the cheapest day of the entire funfair, attracting families from Werne, Lünen, Hamm, and Selm.
Werne — Town in the Unna District
The medium-sized town of Werne, with its approximately 30,000 inhabitants, is located in the Unna district in the eastern transition area between Münsterland and the Ruhr region. Known for the Sole-Thermen Werne (salt thermal baths), the historic Renaissance town hall, and the market square that has grown over centuries, which completely transforms into a fairground for the Maikirmes. Werne was historically shaped by salt extraction, textile industry, and mining — today, services and medium-sized industries characterize the cityscape.
