One of the most renowned Volksfests in Southern Germany on the Danube riverbank
The Günzburg Volksfest is one of the best-known and most popular Volksfests in Southern Germany. Organized by the city of Günzburg, it takes place annually in August on the festival grounds on the Danube riverbank, in the Swabian city of Günzburg in the district of the same name in the state of Bavaria.
The centerpiece is the large festival tent. The Hahnzelt stands for experiential gastronomy, combining traditional festival cuisine with contemporary accents. Bavarian delicacies, freshly tapped beer, and classic chicken dishes are served, accompanied by daily live music from regional brass bands and party bands. Beer and chicken are available at reduced pre-festival prices several weeks before the festival begins.
Around the festival tent, a wide range of rides provides thrills and family fun. Numerous snack, refreshment, and sales stands complete the fairground. A dedicated children's program also makes the Volksfest attractive for families.
The Volksfest spans over ten days, with the public holiday Assumption of Mary on August 15th falling right in the middle. The festival combines Bavarian inn culture, customs, and fairground entertainment into a convivial summer highlight for the entire region.
From August 7th to 16th, 2026, the festival grounds on the Danube riverbank will once again transform into a colorful fairground. For over ten days, the Günzburg Volksfest will feature the large festival tent with the Hahnzelt, where Bavarian delicacies, freshly tapped beer, and chicken classics are served, along with daily live music from regional bands. Rides and numerous stands around the tent will create a Volksfest atmosphere. The public holiday Assumption of Mary on August 15th falls within the festival days.
The detailed stage and band program will be published by the festival organizer via the Hahnzelt and the city of Günzburg.
Günzburg is located in Bavarian Swabia directly on the A8 motorway between Ulm and Augsburg and is well-connected by train. The festival grounds on the Danube riverbank are near the Danube, within walking distance of the city center and train station.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Rides and food/drinks are paid for on-site; table reservations in the Hahnzelt are possible.
Take advantage of the pre-festival prices for beer and chicken several weeks before the festival begins.
