Swabian Spring Festival with Five Days of Festivities

The Günzburg Spring Festival is one of the largest spring folk festivals in Bavarian Swabia and the most important event in the Danube town in May. A small folk festival town is set up for five days on the festival grounds at Ortsstraße 40: a marquee with 2,000 seats, classic rides, shooting galleries, carousels, candy stalls — the full spectrum of a small-scale Bavarian-Swabian folk festival.

Opening Parade on Wednesday

The festival begins on Wednesday, May 13th, with the grand parade through the town center: fire brigades, shooting clubs, and sports clubs march to the festival grounds. In the evening, Rockspitz will play as the opening band in the marquee. Free admission — the opening is traditionally a community festival that brings the town together.

Father's Day Gathering on Thursday

Thursday (May 14th, 2026 = Ascension Day = Father's Day) is traditionally Father's Day: classic father-and-son activities dominate — stein-holding contests, vintage car meet, a dedicated children's program, and a relaxed day where the marquee fills up early. The atmosphere is family-friendly, and the beer traditionally flows from the morning onwards.

"Beer Tent Meets Mallorca" Party Night

On Friday, May 15th, it's party night: "Beer Tent meets Mallorca" with Schlager stars and Mallorca DJs — Micha Schue, Der Zipfelbube, DJ Contaxx. Tickets are available in advance; the marquee requires tickets on this evening. A classic folk festival party format that attracts younger guests.

Family Weekend

Saturday and Sunday (May 16th and 17th) are Family Weekend: Schafkopf (a Bavarian card game) tournament on Saturday, street food festival, performance by the Stadtkapelle Leipheim (town band), and on Sunday, a family and sports day with the GUNTIADE competition and comedy show. The mix of tradition (Schafkopf, town band), current trends (street food), and fun for the whole family makes the weekend well-balanced.

Günzburg — Danube Town with LEGOLAND Effect

Günzburg is located in the district of Günzburg on the Danube River, about 50 km east of Ulm. The town, with around 21,000 inhabitants, is known throughout Germany for LEGOLAND Deutschland, one of the most popular family theme parks. The Spring Festival is a community event, not a tourist magnet — but LEGOLAND visitors often discover it as a pleasant addition to their theme park visit.
