An entire town runs

The «Kappeln Rund» city run is one of Schleswig-Holstein's most distinctive running events because the course design is its main appeal: The route leads once through the old town of Kappeln and along the harbor promenade on the Schlei. Those who run here pass harbor restaurants, cross the historic city gate, and regularly get views of the Schlei water — one of the most beautiful backdrops for a running race in Northern Germany.

The distances — something for everyone

• Bambinilauf 600 m for children born in 2019 and younger
• Kappeln Rund 5.9 km — the classic main distance, one loop through the old town
• Doppel Rund 10 km for runners born in 2010 or older (two loops)
• Schülerstaffel 5 × 2 km — relay competition for schoolchildren from 2nd grade
• Nordic Walking 5.9 km — same route as Kappeln Rund, with poles

Start and finish at the Nordhafen

Start «Nordhafen Höhe Dehnthof» (except for the Bambinilauf, which has its own start area). Finish: Nordhafen Am Hafen 13. This means the start and finish are right on the water, in close proximity to restaurants and cafés — ideal for refueling after the run and for accompanying persons waiting.

17th edition 2026

With its 17th edition, the city run is well-established. Online registration is via RaceResult, with live results, participant lists, and information on timing, award ceremonies, catering, travel, and accommodation options.

In the Schleswig-Flensburg district

Kappeln is located at the mouth of the Schlei in the Schleswig-Flensburg district and is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts on the Baltic Sea. Known from the TV series «Der Landarzt» and as a yacht harbor, it combines a maritime atmosphere with rural tranquility — an ideal backdrop for a city run format that emphasizes charm and landscape rather than mass starts and speed.
