The Dossenbergerhof as a Christmas Stage
The Dossenbergerhof is a historic courtyard in the middle of Günzburg's old town—framed by old burgher houses, with cobblestone pavement and several entrances from the surrounding alleys. This enclosed atmosphere makes it the ideal location for a romantic Christmas market, which consciously differs in size and atmosphere from the larger Bavarian Christmas markets.
Clubs, Schools, Vendors
What's special about the Günzburg Altstadtweihnacht: The majority of the stalls are run by local clubs, schools, and initiatives. This means the proceeds go directly to local projects—from the school gymnasium to the sports club to the hospice. The range of goods is predominantly handmade: Advent wreaths, nativity scenes, felt crafts, wooden toys, natural cosmetics, honey, cookies.
Stage Program
Brass bands, school choirs, regional bands, and individual artists from the district of Günzburg and Swabia perform on the stage in the courtyard. The program is spread over the five days and changes every evening.
St. Nicholas Market on December 5th
In addition to the Altstadtweihnacht, the St. Nicholas market opens on December 5th (St. Nicholas Day)—with performances by St. Nicholas, children's programs, roasted almonds, and mulled wine.
Günzburg in Swabia
Günzburg is located in the district of the same name in Bavarian Swabia, halfway between Ulm and Augsburg on the Danube. The historic old town with its striking market square and the Frauenkirche forms a representative backdrop. Today, the city is internationally known primarily for the nearby Legoland Park.
