Franconian butchers compete for the sausage crown in Wiesweiherpark
When it's about sausage in Franconia, it's at the Franconian Sausage Summit in Pegnitz. In the spacious Wiesweiherpark, butchers from Middle, Upper, and Lower Franconia, along with last year's titleholders, compete for the sausage crown — and the title of 'Sausage King'.
Judging takes place in two categories: the classic Franconian sausage and the creative sausage. Both rounds are judged by an expert jury of butchers, restaurateurs, and star chefs — anonymously and according to a point system. The day begins with the ceremonial procession of the butchers, followed by the jury rounds and the final award ceremony.
Around the competition, Wiesweiherpark becomes a culinary stage: sausage variations fresh from the grill, vegetarian and vegan dishes, coffee and cake, beer from the Maisel brewery, and regional specialties from Franconia. Brass and entertainment music provide the atmosphere, along with a tourism fair from the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. Admission is free.
The 13th edition of the Franconian Sausage Summit takes place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM in Pegnitz's Wiesweiherpark. Seven butchers from Middle, Upper, and Lower Franconia will compete with one classic and one creative sausage each.
An expert jury of butchers, restaurateurs, and star chefs will judge anonymously according to a point system. Moderator Christian Höreth will guide through the day, with music provided by 'Die Zünftigen' and 'Play again Sam'. The defending champion is the Frischecenter Wagner butcher shop from Coburg.
