World-class classical music in the newly renovated Orangery of the Residenzstadt
The Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have existed since 1990 and are among the most important classical music festivals in the country. Over an entire summer, they offer around 120 concerts at about 90 venues, bringing around 1,500 artists to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The special feature: instead of large concert halls, which are rare in this expansive state, village churches, country houses, barns, castles, and industrial monuments become concert venues.
In Neustrelitz, the baroque Residenzstadt in the Mecklenburg Lake District (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state), the Orangery is one of the festival venues. The building was erected in 1755 as a winter shelter for exotic plants and later converted into an elegant ballroom. Between 2020 and 2024, it underwent comprehensive renovation. Today, the interior impresses with three color-themed rooms — blue, yellow, and red — as well as classicist sculptures and historical furnishings.
The festival works with distinguished program series: "Unerhörte Orte" (Unheard-of Places) opens up unusual venues and tells their stories, while the "Junge Elite" (Young Elite) series showcases outstanding young artists. The Orangery, in particular, is ideal for intimate chamber and solo programs where the audience is close to the musicians.
For Neustrelitz and the entire Lake District, the festival is a cultural highlight of the summer. It complements the Residenzstadt's rich event offerings — from the Palace Garden Festival to the Organ Summer — with classical music at an international level.
From June 13 to September 12, 2026, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will take place at around 90 venues throughout the state. In Neustrelitz, the historic Orangery will serve as a concert venue.
For the Orangerie Neustrelitz, a piano recital from the talent development series "Junge Elite" is confirmed, among other events: on Thursday, August 6, at 7:00 PM, pianist Tsotne Zedginidze will perform. The statewide festival program also includes numerous symphony, chamber, and open-air concerts; venues in the wider region include Mirow Castle and Johanniterkirche, as well as the Konzertkirche Neubrandenburg.
The complete program and all dates will be published on the official festival website.
Further concerts of the festival will take place in 2026 at around 90 venues throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, including in the Strelitz region, Mirow Castle, and Johanniterkirche Mirow. The complete program with all artists and dates will be continuously updated on festspiele-mv.de.
