The idea originates from France and follows a simple principle: music belongs to everyone, admission is free, and anyone who wants to participate can. From the Kulturquartier to Schlossstraße and the Schlossberg, you'll hear pop, folk, classical, choral music, and much more — a non-commercial festival that brings the city and its music scene together.

For the sixth time, Neustrelitz celebrates the Fête de la Musique on June 21, 2026. From 4 PM to 10 PM, several squares, courtyards, and streets in the city center will become open stages. The event opens with a parade by the fanfare band through Schlossstraße. Admission is free, and registrations to participate were possible in advance.

The Fête de la Musique 2026 in Neustrelitz is the sixth edition of the non-commercial open-air music festival. It takes place on Sunday, June 21st, from 4 PM to 10 PM.

The Fête de la Musique is an international music festival celebrated around the globe every year on June 21st — the astronomical start of summer and the longest day of the year. Originating in France in 1982, it stands for a simple idea: on this day, people make music for free in public spaces, and the audience listens for free. Neustrelitz, the residential city in the Mecklenburg Lake District (state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), has been part of this movement since the early 2020s.

The City Center as a Stage

On this day, several locations in Neustrelitz's city center transform into open playgrounds: Kulturquartier, Kunsthaus, Schlossstraße, the Wäschespülhäuschen, the Orangerie, and the Schlossberg as the main stage. Music can be heard all over the city between 4 PM and 10 PM. The Fête traditionally opens with a parade by the Neustrelitz fanfare band through Schlossstraße to the Schlossberg.

The Fête de la Musique is more than just a series of concerts: it visibly brings the city's music scene together and turns Neustrelitz's city center into a large, open soundscape for one day. The Theater and Orchestra Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz provides the stage free of charge.
