Christopher Street Day — Visibility and Solidarity

Christopher Street Day commemorates the riots at Christopher Street in New York in June 1969, considered the birthplace of the modern LGBTIQ* movement. Today, parades, political rallies, and stage programs take place in many German cities — Wolfsburg is one of them.

Parade through the City Center

The parade starts at Brandenburger Platz and winds through Wolfsburg's city center. Trucks, walking groups, clubs, initiatives, parties, and supporters line the procession. Rainbow flags, posters, and music characterize the atmosphere.

Stage at the Freibad Biergarten

After the parade concludes, the event moves to the beer garden of the Wolfsburg outdoor pool (Freibad). Artists from the queer scene perform on stage, complemented by speeches, talks, and political statements. The beer garden offers a relaxed setting — a characteristic location for Wolfsburg, shifting the day from the urban center into the green.

Afterparty

The afterparty starts late in the evening and lasts into the night. DJ sets, dancing, and socializing in a safe space round off the day.

Political Dimension

CSD Wolfsburg sees itself not only as a celebration but also as a political demonstration for diversity, acceptance, and equal rights. In recent years, events have sometimes been accompanied by counter-demonstrations — an indication that the visibility of queer lifestyles remains politically necessary.
