A Romantic Organ Takes Centre Stage
The Grüneberg Organ Summer is a concert series centered around the grand Grüneberg organ from 1893 in Neustrelitz Town Church, located in the Mecklenburg Lake District (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state). The instrument was built by the renowned Grüneberg organ-building family from Stettin and is considered a significant romantic organ in the region. Its full, colourful sound has shaped church music in Neustrelitz for decades.
A Summer Full of Organ Sound
During July and August, the Evangelical Lutheran Parish of Strelitzer Land invites you to the Organ Summer. Evening concerts are held on Sundays at 5 PM, featuring the organ both as a solo instrument and in combination with other instruments and voices. On Wednesdays at 1 PM, a midday concert of about half an hour complements the program — a short, focused encounter with the organ in the middle of the week.
Get to Know the Organ
Following the Wednesday midday concerts, organist Lukas Storch offers organ tours. On the gallery, he explains the construction, function, and playing technique of the instrument — an opportunity to get closer to the organ beyond the concert itself. The Grüneberg Organ Summer appeals to lovers of church music as well as the curious who want to understand a historical instrument.
Church Music in the Residence Town
With its free admission and regular sequence of Sunday and Wednesday concerts, the series is a reliable component of the Neustrelitz summer. The town church itself, located in the centre of the baroque residence town, provides a dignified setting.
