Maritime harbour and sailing festival in Lauterbach harbour
The Segel- und Hafenfest Putbus bears the Low German nickname »Fier up de Pier« – »Festival on the Pier«. The venue is Lauterbach harbour, a district of the town of Putbus in the south of the island of Rügen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. Lauterbach is located on the Rügischer Bodden, a protected body of water that offers ideal conditions for a maritime festival.
The sporting heart of the festival is the competition on the water: sailing regattas – including Opti races for youngsters – dragon boat races, and humorous water competitions. The festival opens with a ship parade by the local sailing club. On land, boat jousting (Fischerstechen), tug-of-war, and folk games provide a competitive atmosphere.
In addition to the sports programme, maritime traditions are also featured: Neptune's baptism transforms festival guests into "sea bears". In the evening, live bands, street and stage artists, and DJs take over the harbour stage. A laser show and fireworks provide a spectacular finale late in the evening. Historic sailing ships like the "Ernestine" and "Hoffnung" offer excursions on the Bodden.
The organiser is the Kurverwaltung Putbus (Putbus spa administration); admission is free. Market stalls, showmen, and food vendors cater to the guests. The festival is explicitly designed to be family-friendly – a cross-generational maritime summer festival that attracts locals and holidaymakers alike.
Lauterbach is the harbour town of Putbus – ships to Hiddensee and along the coast depart from here. With its marina, historic seaside resort villas, and its location on the Rügischer Bodden, Lauterbach is a maritime attraction on the island. »Fier up de Pier« celebrates precisely this seafaring identity.
For 2026, the Segel- und Hafenfest »Fier up de Pier« is scheduled for early July (July 3rd–4th) in Lauterbach Harbour.

In the evening, live bands, street and stage artists, and DJs take over the harbour stage; a laser show and fireworks provide spectacular highlights.
