Christmas market in the Putbus castle park for the 1st Advent
The Putbusser Weihnachtswelten are the Christmas highlight of the town of Putbus in the south of the island of Rügen. Putbus, the classical white residential town in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, offers an extraordinary setting for a Christmas market with its castle park – architecturally and scenically.
The market is spread across several locations: the Schlosspark (castle park), the Rosencafé, and the Schlosskirche (castle church). This distribution also turns a stroll through the Weihnachtswelten into a walk through the historic town ensemble – from stall to stall, from room to room.
Over 30 craft stalls offer handmade goods: jewelry, books, Herrnhuter stars, incense, tea, honey, and spices. For culinary delights, there are grilled dishes, pastries, Glühwein (mulled wine), and Punsch (punch). A cultural program with music, complemented by fire bowls and Swedish fires, creates the Advent atmosphere. The market is supported by the association Freunde schöner Inselfunken in collaboration with dedicated citizens and businesses from Putbus and the surrounding area.
The Putbusser Weihnachtswelten see themselves as a lovingly designed, community-supported Christmas market – not a large commercial market, but a festival that thrives on volunteer commitment. This is what makes the event's special character and attracts both islanders and Advent guests alike.
The Putbus castle park is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's most important landscape parks. During Advent, it becomes an atmospheric venue – the Putbusser Weihnachtswelten turn the park and the town ensemble into a Christmas stage once a year.
The Putbusser Weihnachtswelten traditionally takes place on the first Advent weekend. In 2026, this is expected to be the weekend of November 27th to 29th; the association Freunde schöner Inselfunken will announce the exact dates and opening hours in advance.
The venues will again be the Schlosspark (castle park), Rosencafé, and Schlosskirche (castle church). Over 30 craft stalls will offer handmade goods – jewelry, Herrnhuter stars, incense, tea, honey, spices. Mulled wine, punch, grilled dishes, and pastries will provide the culinary part; a cultural program with music, fire bowls, and Swedish fires will round off the Advent weekend.
