A Celebration in the Palace Park
"Music in the Park" is the public-facing open-air day of the Putbus Festival. While the festival usually takes place in the theatre, the palace church, and the orangery, on this day the Palace Park Putbus – the extensive landscape park of the neoclassical residence town in the south of the island of Rügen – opens up as a green festival stage.
Listen and Stroll
The concept for the day is "Listen and Stroll": Music is performed at various locations in the park, and the audience moves freely between the performance venues. The programme includes choirs, a children's choir, puppet theatre, and sound installations; the theatre also shows historical films about Putbus. Association members in historical costumes distribute programmes for donations, and culinary stands cater to the guests.
Family-Friendly and Free
Admission is free – donations are welcome. Visitors bring camping chairs and picnics and settle in for several hours in the park. This makes "Music in the Park" the most accessible format of the Putbus Festival: a cross-generational celebration that combines music, architecture, and nature.
Putbus and its Palace Park
The Putbus Palace Park is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's most important landscape parks. With its palace terraces, old trees, and the orangery, it forms the green heart of the white residence town in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. "Music in the Park" transforms this park into an open-air concert hall once a year.
