Night excursion to frogs, toads, and moths in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park
The Amphibian Festival is a guided, precisely scheduled nature park event in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park in southern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The focus is on a unique "concert of frogs and toads" at the Thurow natural water body – the nocturnal soundscape of the water is the real star of the evening.
The tour starts late in the evening, lasts about three hours, and covers approximately four kilometers along a still water body. The nature park rangers explain the native amphibians (common toad, common frog, yellow-bellied toad, European tree frog) and moths, their life cycles, and their importance for the biodiversity of the Feldberger Seenlandschaft.
The Feldberger Seenlandschaft is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's most important amphibian conservation areas. Still water bodies like the one in Thurow are considered biodiversity hotspots – with a high concentration of different amphibian species, dragonflies, and nocturnal insects. The nature park uses the festival format to make the event accessible to a broader public, despite its educational character.
The organizer is the Naturpark Feldberger Seenlandschaft (Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park); the guided tours are conducted by trained nature park rangers. Registration is required; the number of participants is limited to protect the nocturnal tranquility of the water body.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM, the Amphibian Festival will start at the Thurow natural water body in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park. The nature park rangers will accompany participants on a roughly four-kilometer route through the nocturnal nature reserve.
The focus is on the "concert" of frogs and toads – the characteristic soundscape of a still water body in early summer. In addition, native moths, dragonflies, and other nocturnal animals will be presented, their life cycles explained, and their importance for the biodiversity of the Feldberger Seenlandschaft highlighted.
Registration with the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park is necessary; the number of participants is limited to protect the nocturnal tranquility of the water body.
