Au in the Hexental valley near Freiburg

Au is one of the four Hexental communities (Au, Bollschweil, Sölden, Wittnau) in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district (AGS 08315), immediately south of Freiburg im Breisgau. With around 1,300 inhabitants, the village lives from its agricultural character, commuter traffic to Freiburg, and its close-knit club life. The Musikverein Au e.V. is one of the central clubs — and the Dorfhock is its annual calling card.

Three days of village festival at the community center

From Friday, July 3rd, 2026, to Sunday, July 5th, 2026, the Au community center will be the venue for the festival. The program follows the classic Dorfhock (village festival) dramaturgy of the southern Baden tradition: Friday evening opening with the house band, Saturday evening club night with a guest band from the Hexental or Breisgau, Sunday morning 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) with bratwurst and beer, Sunday afternoon festival finale with the members of the music club.

Brass music as the connecting element

The Musikverein Au e.V. is the host and main performer. The member groups, the youth band, and friendly clubs from the Hexental and Markgräflerland shape the musical program. Between waltzes, polkas, marches, and modern brass music hits, there are sing-along songs, a dance floor in the courtyard, and catering in the hall.

Markgräfler wine and Baden cuisine

The catering is handled by the members of the music club together with the other village clubs. On the menu: bratwurst and steaks from the grill, 'Schäufele' (pork shoulder) or 'Sauerbraten' (marinated pot roast) as a Sunday meal, fries and 'Käsespätzle' (cheese noodles), accompanied by beer from a regional brewery (e.g., Ganter from Freiburg) and wine from Hexental vintners. The Markgräfler wine region is right on the doorstep — Burgundy wines are regularly on offer.

A typical southern Baden village festival

The Dorfhock Au is small, familial, and unpretentious — not a tourist event, but a real village festival.
