Wine and Sparkling Wine in the Markgräflerland — Winzergenossenschaft's Summer Festival
Wolfenweiler is a district of the municipality of Schallstadt in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district (AGS 08315), ten kilometers south of Freiburg. The region is part of the Markgräflerland, one of Germany's warmest wine regions — Burgundy grape varieties (Gutedel, Spätburgunder, Weißburgunder) find ideal conditions here at the transition from the Black Forest to the Rhine plain. The Wolfenweiler Winzergenossenschaft (Kirchstraße 2) bundles the wines of its member businesses and has been organizing a three-day summer festival for years, bearing the name "Der Wolf tanzt" — an allusion to the place name.
Friday, June 19th, 2026, from 6 PM. Festival opening. Admission approx. 5 EUR — including a glass of sparkling wine (Wolfenweiler Crémant) or grape juice as a welcome drink. The cover band Hit Me will play pop and rock classics on the stage in the courtyard. The catering stands will serve Markgräfler white, rosé, and red wines, sparkling wine, along with Baden cuisine: Flammkuchen, Vesper platters, High Rhine trout.
Saturday, June 20th, 2026, from 6 PM — the main festival evening. Admission approx. 10 EUR including one drink. The band Wilde Engel will provide dance music until late into the night. Highlights: Tasting offers from the Winzergenossenschaft in the Vinothek tent, sparkling wine tasting of the in-house Crémants, Schnitzel and Bratwurst from the grill. A typical Baden courtyard festival evening on a larger scale.
Sunday, June 21st, 2026, from 11 AM Family Day with free admission. Program: Frühschoppen (morning pint), open cellar tours through the historic vaulted cellars of the Winzergenossenschaft, children's play activities, live music from the Hexental music club. Direct sales of wines at festival prices — an opportunity to take a case or two with you.
The Markgräflerland is Germany's southernmost wine region and the prime growing area for the Gutedel grape — a Swiss-Baden specialty cultivated here in significant quantities. Also Spätburgunder, Weißburgunder, Müller-Thurgau. The Wolfenweiler Winzergenossenschaft unites several winegrowing families who manage their vineyards around Schallstadt, Norsingen, and Mengen — hillside viticulture at the transition to the Black Forest foothills.
Take the Breisgau-S-Bahn from Freiburg to Schallstadt (Wolfenweiler-Schallstadt station) in 10 minutes, then a 5-minute walk. By bus from Freiburg main station (line 7211). Those exploring the Markgräflerland by bike will arrive directly at the Domaine.
