Gütersloh-Niehorst — A Hamlet with Tradition

Niehorst is one of the traditional Bauerschaften (rural districts) of the city of Gütersloh in the eastern Münsterland region (now Gütersloh district). With around 1,300 inhabitants, Niehorst is located north of Gütersloh's city center, characterized by agricultural land, some old farmsteads, and a vibrant club life. The Schützenverein Niehorst (SV Niehorst e.V.) is one of the central clubs in the Bauerschaft and operates its own venue, the Schützenhaus, at Brockhagener Straße 376.

The Niehorster Bierfest — Tradition Meets Oktoberfest

The Niehorster Bierfest was first organized by SV Niehorst in 2024 — a combined concept between a traditional Westphalian autumn festival and Bavarian Oktoberfest spirit. The idea: transform the Schützenhaus into a small festival tent for an evening, serve Oktoberfest beer, prepare Leberkäse rolls fresh, have live music, and elect a Bierkönig (Beer King) or Bierkönigin (Beer Queen). The concept worked — the second edition followed in 2025 with a new Beer King, and the third in 2026.

3rd Edition on Friday, October 2, 2026

The 3rd edition takes place on Friday, October 2, 2026, starting in the evening — strategically chosen on the eve of German Unity Day (long weekend). Tables and benches will be set up in the Schützenhaus Niehorst, the beer taps opened, and the live stage erected. Members, neighbors from the surrounding Bauerschaften (Avenwedde, Spexard, Friedrichsdorf), as well as beer fans from Gütersloh city center and Bielefeld-Brackwede are expected.

Program Elements

Specifically to expect — based on previous years:

• Oktoberfest beer on tap in Maßkrugs (liter steins)
• Freshly prepared Leberkäse rolls from the club kitchen
• Live music or DJ set with Oktoberfest and Schlager repertoire
• Election of the Bierkönig/Bierkönigin — the central fun component
• Sociability, club atmosphere, a bit of dancing

It is a club festival in the best sense — not an anonymous large event, but an occasion where you seek and find conversations.

The SV Niehorst e.V.

The SV Niehorst e.V. is the local marksmen's club of the Bauerschaft, with its own Schützenhaus, shooting range, and an active club calendar: annual Schützenfest, Bierfest, club evenings, children's and youth activities. The Bierfest has now become one of its most popular formats.

Gütersloh and the Gütersloh District

Gütersloh is an industrial city with around 102,000 inhabitants, home to the Bertelsmann Group and internationally known for Miele. Visitors from outside can combine their Bierfest visit with a stroll through Gütersloh's city center (Stadtkirche, Theater Gütersloh, Stadtpark) or an excursion to nearby Bielefeld, Rheda-Wiedenbrück, or the Senne nature area.
