„City of Three Lakes“ celebrates its civic festival on the market square
Lindow (Mark) calls itself the „City of Three Lakes“ because it is nestled between the Wutzsee, Vielitzsee, and Gudelacksee lakes. Despite its manageable size (around 3,000 inhabitants), the small town in the Oder-Havel-Waterway district, in the heart of the Stechlin-Ruppin Lake Nature Park, has a vibrant club life and its own town festival. The Lindow Town Festival traditionally takes place on the first Saturday of July — in 2026, expected on Saturday, July 4th.
When the Rheinsberg Brass Band starts playing at 12:00 PM, the festivities begin. Throughout the day, a well-rehearsed festival program unfolds, connecting generations:
A special tradition is the duck race on the Wutzsee. Hundreds of yellow plastic ducks are released into the lake, and the wind carries them to the finish line. Those who have bought a duck in advance hope for the main prize. The race is not only fun for children but also an important source of income for local clubs — the proceeds go towards club activities and town projects.
Lindow (Mark) is located in the middle of the Stechlin-Ruppin Lake Nature Park — one of Brandenburg's most beautiful lake districts, characterized by clear, pristine lakes and extensive beech forests. The nearby Stechlinsee is famous as the setting for Theodor Fontane's last novel, "Der Stechlin." Those who spend a day or a weekend at the town festival can ideally combine it with a hike around the Wutzsee or a boat trip to the Stechlinsee.
Lindow is a perfect example of the Brandenburg small-town festival tradition: compact, family-friendly, and authentic. There are no big stars, but a very personal atmosphere. Anyone who wants to experience authentic Brandenburg should visit such a festival — and not one of the large town festivals in Potsdam or Cottbus.
The Lindow (Mark) Town Festival 2026 is planned for the 1st Saturday in July — expectedly Saturday, July 4, 2026. The organizer is the Town of Lindow (Mark), coordinated through the Tourist Information Office.
The festival program follows the proven choreography of recent years: brass band opening at noon, sports competition by the lake, children's and school acts in the afternoon, live music in the evening, and dancing until late. The duck race on the Wutzsee has been the hallmark of the festival for decades.
