Culture festival in the Ilmbad Pfaffenhofen with Rock, Indie, and Metal
Open Park PFA'HOFA is the vibrant cultural festival of the Upper Bavarian town of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. The festival takes place annually at the Ilmbad – the municipal outdoor swimming pool – located at Ingolstädter Straße 72. Bands from Rock, Indie, Alternative, Metal, as well as Singer-Songwriter acts alternate on two open-air stages; the sunbathing lawn and swimming pools remain open simultaneously.
The organizers are three non-profit organizations from Pfaffenhofen: the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) and its youth group, the cultural association MetalCrew Kultur e.V., and the Oroboros Verein. The patron is Mayor Thomas Herker. The concept follows a clear social line: the festival aims to be accessible to all social strata, admission is included in the regular outdoor pool ticket, and food trucks offer affordable catering. Thus, Open Park PFA'HOFA consciously positions itself as an accessible alternative to commercial mega-festivals.
The festival offers around eight hours of live music per day, complemented by exhibition stands from regional non-profit associations, dance, and cultural fringe programs. Families, teenagers, and adults mingle on the sunbathing lawn, with swimming becoming an accompanying festival activity. The mix of lakeside festival feeling and social commitment makes the format unique in Upper Bavaria.
Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm is a district town with around 27,000 inhabitants in the Upper Bavarian hop-growing region of Hallertau, located between Munich and Ingolstadt. The festival is part of the town's active cultural scene and is one of the few open-air festivals in Bavaria that combines the municipal pool with live music.
The fifth edition of the Open Park PFA'HOFA cultural festival will take place in 2026 on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, at the Ilmbad Pfaffenhofen on the River Ilm. On both days, the festival offers a diverse program from 12 PM to 10 PM; the cultural and music program on the two stages runs from 2 PM to 10 PM.
Bands from Rock, Indie, Alternative, Metal, and Singer-Songwriter genres will alternate on the stages. The program is complemented by exhibition stands from regional non-profit associations, dance, and interactive activities. Food trucks offer affordable catering, and admission is included in the regular day ticket for the Ilmbad – swimming during the festival is explicitly encouraged.
The specific lineup will be announced on open-park.de and in the weeks leading up to the festival.
Admission to the festival corresponds to the regular day ticket for the Ilmbad Pfaffenhofen outdoor pool. Food trucks and association stands offer affordable food and drinks. A family-friendly pricing structure is part of the festival's ethos.
Pfaffenhofen is located directly on the A9 motorway (Munich–Berlin, Pfaffenhofen exit) and on the Munich–Ingolstadt railway line with a stop at Pfaffenhofen station. From the station to the Ilmbad, it's about a 20-minute walk or a ride on the city bus. Parking is available near the festival.
Festival admission is included in the regular day ticket for the Ilmbad – no separate festival ticket is needed. This makes Open Park PFA'HOFA one of the most affordable festivals in Bavaria. Food trucks and association stands offer affordable food and drinks.
Those attending should pack swimwear and a picnic blanket: Swimming during the concerts is explicitly encouraged. If you want to combine a family festival atmosphere with a mix of bands, this is the place to be.
