Pride Week, Street Festival and Demonstration for Queer Visibility
Since 1980, the LGBTIQ+ community has been demonstrating in Hamburg for equal rights, visibility, and diversity. Christopher Street Day Hamburg – today Hamburg Pride – is one of Germany's largest Pride events with around 250,000 participants from all over Europe and the largest queer festival in Northern Germany.
Hamburg Pride consists of three interconnected parts:
The district of St. Georg, around Lange Reihe, has been Hamburg's queer center for decades. Bars, bookshops, cafés, and counseling centers characterize the neighborhood. During Hamburg Pride, Lange Reihe becomes the main thoroughfare, and the Pride House, located in a facility in St. Georg, serves as a meeting and educational space with free workshops and lectures.
Despite the festival atmosphere, Hamburg Pride remains a political demonstration. The 2026 motto – "Solidarity Queer. Take a Stand – For a Future Without Fear!" – points to increasing hostility, queer-phobic violence, and political setbacks. The demonstration on Saturday is intended as a powerful statement against hate and for democracy.
The demonstration starts on August 1, 2026, between Mühlendamm and Wartenau on Lübecker Straße, proceeds through Steinstraße and across Mönckebergstraße to Lombardsbrücke. Approximately 100 groups, associations, parties, companies, and communities are participating – with trucks, walking acts, and performances.
Hamburg Pride 2026 takes place from July 25 to August 2 – nine days of queer visibility, politics, and celebration. The 2026 motto: "Solidarity Queer. Take a Stand – For a Future Without Fear!"
Around 250,000 participants are expected again for the CSD demonstration on Saturday, August 1. The street festival runs from Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 2, between Jungfernstieg and Ballindamm. Starting July 25, Pride Week offers workshops, receptions, film screenings, and discussions.
Pride Night at Kampnagel with Pride Awards. Three days of street festival between Jungfernstieg and Ballindamm. Demonstration through the city center with 250,000 participants. Pride House with free workshops. Pink Pauli Festival on the closing Sunday.
All events are free. Donations for Hamburg Pride e.V. are welcome – the organization is financed mainly by donations and sponsorships.
For the street festival: U-Bahn (subway) lines U1/U2/U4 or S-Bahn (urban rail) lines S1/S2/S3 to Jungfernstieg or Hauptbahnhof. For the demonstration: U/S Hauptbahnhof, then walk to the starting point on Lübecker Straße. Road closures are in effect in the city center during the festival weekend – public transport is recommended.
All events are free. Pride Week, the street festival, and the demonstration are free to attend. Donations for Hamburg Pride e.V. are welcome.
Full program and updates available at hamburg-pride.de and via the Hamburg Pride app. Pride House offers free workshops on queer topics (e.g., Coming Out, Trans* Rights, Healing).
Security and awareness teams are present during the street festival and demonstration. Contact on-site personnel in case of queer-phobic incidents.
