Grand Old Town Festival in the Upper Palatinate Tri-City Area — every three years
Burglengenfeld is a town in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf, located in the so-called tri-city area of Burglengenfeld, Teublitz, and Maxhütte-Haidhof. The Civic Festival is the largest town festival and deliberately takes place only every three years — making it a special, eagerly anticipated event. The historic old town otherwise serves as a backdrop for the Christmas market or Italian Night, but every three years it hosts the grand Civic Festival.
The medieval-influenced historic old town becomes a festival mile with several stages: programs at Europaplatz, a stage at the parking garage with alternative music, a small stage at St.-Veit-Platz for youth acts, and larger stages at Unterer Markt and Pithiviers-Brücke for local and regional bands. Throughout the entire festival weekend, more than 70 bands and groups perform across all music genres.
The organizer is the City of Burglengenfeld. For each edition, clubs, restaurateurs, and music groups can apply for stands and performances (application deadline in advance via the Cultural Office). This broad participation from clubs and local gastronomy shapes the character as a true "Civic" festival.
The Civic Festival is a regional attraction for the Burglengenfeld–Teublitz–Maxhütte-Haidhof tri-city area and beyond. The combination of a medieval old town backdrop, a packed music program on many stages, and the rare three-year rhythm draws visitors from all over the Middle Upper Palatinate.
The Civic Festival looks back on a long tradition; the 15th edition took place in 2023, and the 16th edition will follow in 2026. The multi-year rhythm gives each edition special significance and makes it a defining city event.
The 16th edition continues the triennial rhythm: after 2023, 2026 is once again a Civic Festival year. The historic old town becomes a festival mile with stages at Europaplatz, Unterer Markt, St.-Veit-Platz, Pithiviers-Brücke, and the alternative stage at the parking garage. Over the weekend, more than 70 bands and groups from all music genres will perform.
As with every edition, clubs, restaurateurs, and music groups could apply in advance (application deadline via the Cultural Office). The broad participation of clubs and local gastronomy shapes the character of the festival. The city promises once again an "unforgettable festival".
Over the entire weekend, more than 70 performances across all genres.
