Running event in the Alpine City — Trail, City Trail, and Kids' Runs in one day
Bad Reichenhall in the Berchtesgadener Land district is one of Germany's most traditional spa towns. The salt town on the edge of the Berchtesgaden Alps is located at 470 meters and offers a spectacular mountain backdrop: Hochstaufen (1,771 m), Predigtstuhl, and Zwiesel frame the town. This geography makes Bad Reichenhall the ideal stage for a running event that combines city and mountain.
The range of routes is the event's strength: Those seeking alpine competition can run the Hochstaufen-Trailrun (19 km, 1,350 meters elevation gain) over the challenging »Stoanane Jaga« to the summit. Those who prefer a more moderate challenge can choose one of the two City Trails — the Klosterhof-Trail (5.5 km, 100 m elevation gain) or the Alpenstadt-Trail (9.7 km, 200 m elevation gain). For children, there are two route options as well as a 150-m Mini Run for the little ones.
All runs start and end at Rathausplatz, which becomes the central festival hub. Food trucks and a catering tent provide for runners and spectators, the band »The Live Jacks« plays live from 8 PM, followed by an after-party at Club Oceans. The event is thus both a sports competition and a city festival — a combination that is a hallmark in the Upper Bavarian running scene.
In its 20 editions, the event has mobilized over 12,800 runners, who have completed more than 154,000 kilometers together. These figures underscore the importance of the running event in the Upper Bavarian sports scene. The main sponsor for years has been the outdoor clothing manufacturer Dare 2B, which lends its name to the event.
The 21st edition of the running event will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Bad Reichenhall. Four competitive routes and family offerings are on the program — from the alpine trail challenge to the 150-m Mini Run.
Highlights include the Hochstaufen-Trailrun with an ascent via the »Stoanane Jaga« to the summit (1,771 m) and the two City Trails through Bad Reichenhall and its surroundings. The food trucks and the catering tent at Rathausplatz turn the running event into a city festival that also attracts non-runners.
