Three months of cultural festival in the Bavarian Alpine salt town — from March to June
Bad Reichenhall in the southeastern Bavarian Alps, in the Berchtesgadener Land district, has a density of culture that far exceeds its population — a result of its history as a royal Bavarian spa town and its location between Munich and Salzburg. The Kulturfrühling bundles this diversity: for over three months, a continuous program of concerts, theatre evenings, exhibitions, and films runs at various locations in the city.
A cornerstone of the festival are the concerts by the Bad Reichenhaller Philharmoniker — one of the few professional symphony orchestras in a small Bavarian town. Classical concert evenings in the Königliches Kurhaus are presented alongside chamber music formats in the Klosterhof.
The Kunstakademie Bad Reichenhall — one of the largest art academies in Europe with over 200 courses annually — participates with exhibitions, opening receptions, and open studios. At Magazin 3, academy lecturers and external artists showcase current works.
Theatre evenings, dance performances, and cabaret programs complement the focus on classical music and fine arts. A curated film series runs parallel to the festival at the Park-Kino. Discussion formats, readings, and literary evenings are also part of the program.
A unique feature of the Kulturfrühling is a showcase quiz: quotes from cultural figures of Bad Reichenhall are displayed in 17 shop windows — participants who correctly match the showcases can win courses at the Kunstakademie, tickets to the Philharmoniker, cinema vouchers, or a private city tour for 20 people.
The Kulturfrühling 2026 has been officially confirmed by Bad Reichenhall Tourism & Stadtmarketing GmbH and Netzwerk Kultur. The opening will take place on March 21 (astronomical start of spring), and the festival will conclude on June 21 (start of summer).
The complete program booklet (approx. 12 MB PDF) is available on the festival website. Over 17 different program locations are involved — from the concert rotunda of the Königliches Kurhaus and the Kunstakademie, Magazin 3, ReichenhallMuseum, Park-Kino, to the Klosterhof.
