The Kengster Kerwa is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Upper Franconian municipality of Ködnitz in the Kulmbach district, located directly on the White Main river. The event is organized by TSV Ködnitz 1922 together with the local 'Ortsburschen' and 'Ortsmadla' – the local term Kengster stands for the citizens of Ködnitz in Franconian dialect. For four days at the end of August and beginning of September, the sports field transforms into a festival ground with a beer tent, live music, a traditional Kerwa parade, and a program that brings together young and old. Particularly typical is the 'Hausensingen' (house singing) with accordion, passed down from generation to generation.

Getting There

By car via the B289 between Kulmbach and Bayreuth, exit Ködnitz. By train to Untersteinach or Kulmbach Hbf, then by bus or taxi (~10 km). Free parking is available at the sports grounds.
