Weihnachtsmarkt Langendreer

19th District Christmas Market

The Weihnachtsmarkt Langendreer has been the central Advent event in the Bochum district of Langendreer since 2007 and will take place for the 19th time in 2026. Date: Saturday, December 5, 2026, 11 am–6 pm. The market unfolds around the Christuskirche on Alte Bahnhofstraße / Ovelacker Straße — a classic district market with a "calm, relaxed, almost familiar atmosphere," as the organizers aptly describe it.

Over 50 Stalls

Over 50 stalls are spread around the Christuskirche:

• Mulled wine and punch (alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
• Bratwurst, potato pancakes, crêpes, waffles
• Candied almonds, gingerbread, stollen, cookies
• Handicrafts — ceramics, woodwork, jewelry, felt, textiles
• Gift items and Advent decorations
• Community stalls from Langendreer (often with homemade goods, proceeds for local projects)

St. Nicholas Visit 2:00 PM–4:00 PM

A highlight for the children: the visit from St. Nicholas from 2 pm to 4 pm. St. Nicholas, with his bishop's staff and long white beard, brings a small gift for each child and asks questions from the "Bekanntenbüchlein" (little book of acquaintances).

Christmas Concert Marathon in the Christuskirche

An exceptionally dense concert program in the Christuskirche provides the musical backdrop — live music is scheduled for almost the entire day:

• 11:00 am — Kindergarten Arche Noah
• 12:00 pm — Lessing-Schule Orchestra and Choirs
• 1:00 pm — Teachers and students of the Bochum-East Music School
• 3:00 pm — Chornetto
• 4:00 pm — Ecumenical Gospel Choir Langendreer
• 5:00 pm — Quartetto "Tre a uno"

Fairy Tale Forest for Children

The Fairy Tale Forest is a decorated area around the church where children can discover familiar fairy tale motifs — Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, the Bremen Town Musicians. Parents can let their children play there briefly while they stroll through the market themselves.

Langendreer — Bochum-East

Langendreer is a district in eastern Bochum, characterized by its own identity. With around 35,000 inhabitants and its own pedestrian zone, Langendreer is almost like a small town within the urban fabric of Bochum. Bochum, with over 370,000 inhabitants, is one of the central cities of the Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia — known for the Ruhr University, the Schauspielhaus theater, the Bermuda Triangle entertainment district, and the Starlight Express musical. The Christuskirche Langendreer is a Neo-Gothic church building in the heart of the district.

Organizing Community

The organizers are the Evangelical Parish of Langendreer in cooperation with the district initiative "Langendreer hat's!". The market is supported by STWBO (Stadtwerke Bochum), ZIESAK, and Christian Mueller. This voluntary collaboration is a hallmark of the market and ensures its familiar, commercially understated atmosphere.
