District festival by the lake as part of Bochum-Ost Civic Week — 50 Years of Ümminger See
The Ümminger See is one of the most popular local recreation areas in eastern Bochum — and the focal point of one of the city's most beautiful district festivals. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, starting at 2 PM, the lakeside transforms into a stage for concerts, street art, and family activities. The See-Fest is part of the 47th Bochum-Ost Civic Week (June 10–16, 2026) and in 2026 also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Ümminger See.
The program is relaxed and family-oriented — continuing into the evening, with two bands as highlights in the late afternoon and early evening.
The Ümminger See was created in the 1970s as a flood retention basin for the Bochum-Werner Aue and simultaneously developed into a local recreation area. In 2026, it celebrates its 50th anniversary — a good reason to expand the traditional See-Fest. Today, the lake is a central meeting point for walkers, dog owners, model-building enthusiasts (see model boat exhibition!), and families from the districts of Werne, Laer, and Langendreer.
The Bochum-Ost Civic Week is one of the oldest and largest district festival series in North Rhine-Westphalia. Clubs, parishes, schools, institutions, and citizens create a diverse program under the motto “Citizens Meet Citizens — We Participate”. The Ümminger See-Fest is one of the largest individual events, supplemented by:
The Werne district, along with Laer and Langendreer, forms the eastern city district of Bochum. Characterized by a mix of terraced houses, green spaces, and small eateries, the neighborhood is a quieter alternative to the livelier city center of Bochum. The Ümminger See is the scenic centerpiece of the Bochum-Ost development — and the annual See-Fest is the most important social event for the neighborhoods.
The Ümminger See-Fest 2026 is one of Bochum's liveliest district festivals — and in 2026 also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the lake. Embedded in the 47th Bochum-Ost Civic Week, the festival offers concerts, street dance, street art, and the popular model boat exhibition by the lake.
The Civic Week runs from June 10–16, 2026, in several districts: Laer, Werne, Langendreer, with a kick-off on Wednesday in Laer and a closing family festival in Volkspark.
