What it's about

Once a year, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden brings its core repertoire from inside the opera house out onto Bebelplatz – the historic square in front of the opera, which for many Berliners is associated with the infamy of the book burning in 1933. With Staatsoper für alle, the square is dedicated to a different memory for one weekend in May: free, high-caliber classical music under the open sky, for an audience that may not be as prepared, with picnic blankets and families.

The 2026 Programme

Dates: May 23rd and 24th, 2026. On Saturday evening (May 23rd, 7 PM), a live broadcast of Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco – from inside the Staatsoper to a large screen on Bebelplatz. On Sunday (May 24th), a concert by the Staatskapelle Berlin: 11:30 AM Children's Concert, 1:00 PM Main Concert featuring Beethoven's works, conducted by Christian Thielemann, the chief conductor of the Staatskapelle.
