Political Homeland Meets Volksfest
The Stodlkirwa is a special feature of Upper Palatinate club life: a Volksfest (traditional folk festival) format organized by the CSU local chapter Maxhütte-Haidhof – beyond party-political events, attracting large crowds from the entire population. The venue is a traditional Stodl (barn) in the Verau district of the town of Maxhütte-Haidhof (Schwandorf district, Upper Palatinate). The concept is a customs festival with a political background: meeting, conviviality, conversations at long beer tables.
Program of Grill, Cheese, Coffee, and Wine
The division of tasks between the CSU sub-organizations shapes the gastronomic program. The local chapter handles the main offerings with bratwurst, steaks from the grill, grilled fish, and Franconian-Upper Palatinate cheese platters. The Frauen Union (Women's Union) provides the coffee and cake stand, and the Junge Union (Young Union) serves the wine bar. In addition, there is beer, soda, and non-alcoholic drinks. Brass bands and regional bands play in the festival tent/Stodl area.
Maxhütte-Haidhof in the Upper Palatinate
Maxhütte-Haidhof is a town of around 11,500 inhabitants in the Schwandorf district, southwest of Schwandorf and northeast of Regensburg. The townscape is characterized by former steel production (Maxhütte) and a dense network of clubs across five districts, including Verau. The Stodlkirwa is one of the town's defining summer festivals and – unusually for a party event – a date that families of all political backgrounds mark in their calendars.
