About Volksfest Marktl
Volksfest Marktl — edition 2026
The Volksfest Marktl am Inn 2026 will traditionally be celebrated in May. In previous years, the festival always started at the end of April / beginning of May (2025 edition: April 30 to May 4), coinciding with the folk festivals in Burghausen and the surrounding area. Confirmation of the exact dates will be provided by the market community of Marktl am Inn and the festival hosts.
As in previous years, visitors can expect a cozy Bavarian festival tent, amusement rides, the in-house festival beer from the Graf-Arco-Brauerei, and the traditional keg tapping by the mayor.

Folk Festival in the Inn Valley — A Hidden Gem in the Shadow of the Big Wiesn
While the folk festivals in Burghausen, Mühldorf, and Altötting attract significantly more attention, the Volksfest Marktl am Inn is one of those authentic Bavarian festivals that have retained their manageable character to this day. The market town is picturesquely situated between the Inn and Salzach rivers in the district of Altötting and is known beyond the region as the birthplace of Pope Benedict XVI.
Festival Beer from Graf Arco, Festival Tent on the Dultplatz
The folk festival takes place on the Dult- or Volksfestplatz on the outskirts of the town. The festival host and brewery come from the immediate vicinity: the festival beer is supplied by the Graf-Arco-Brauerei, whose brewhouse traditionally brews festival beer for the Inn Valley and stands for regional identity with slogans like »Mia san Bia«.
What Characterizes the Marktl Folk Festival Days
- A classic beer tent with brass band music, party music, and local clubs as regular guests
- Amusement rides and showman stalls for children and teenagers
- Bourgeois-Bavarian atmosphere instead of large-scale event festival culture
- Festival evenings where the local population celebrates the Inn Valley together with visitors from the region
- Tapping of the first keg by the mayor to open the festival
Discover Marktl
A visit to the festival can be well combined with a visit to the Papsthaus Marktl, the birthplace of Joseph Ratzinger, and a walk along the Inn promenade. Those who want to get to know the folk festival with the entire festival culture of the region can combine it with the Burghausen Maiwiesn or the later folk festivals in Altötting.
