The Schützenfest of the Altenkirchen Marksmen's Association takes place annually on the first weekend of July on the Weyerdamm festival grounds. It is held chronologically after the Schützenfest of the 'Alten Allgemeinen' (1st Company, early June) and offers the town's marksmen a second major festive occasion of the year.
Two Marksmen's Associations – One Town
Altenkirchen has two independent marksmen's associations: the Allgemeine Bürgergesellschaft (1st Company, 'Alte Allgemeine') and the Schützenverein Altenkirchen. Both maintain their own traditions, uniforms, festival dates, and club venues. This diversity shapes the marksmen's culture in the district town and makes Altenkirchen one of the most vibrant marksmen's towns in northern Rhineland-Palatinate.
Four Days of Festival Program
The festival traditionally runs from Friday to Monday. In the 2026 edition, it falls on the period from July 3rd to 6th. Each day has its own focus: the festival kick-off on Friday, a big party night on Saturday, the bird shooting and crowning on Sunday, and the company day with a parade on Monday.
Weyerdamm Festival Grounds
Like other major events, the Schützenfest takes place on the Weyerdamm festival grounds. A marquee, stage, amusement park, and sufficient catering areas provide the infrastructure for several thousand visitors over the four festival days.
King Shooting and King's Ball
The highlight is the bird shooting, where the new monarchs are determined. The subsequent King's Ball with the ceremonial crowning in the marquee is one of the most important social events for the club family.

The 2026 Schützenfest of the Altenkirchen Marksmen's Association will take place from Friday, July 3rd, to Monday, July 6th, on the Weyerdamm festival grounds.

- Monday, July 6, 2026: Company day with morning pint, festive church service, grand parade, and closing festivities in the marquee
