BSV Hamborn-Neumühl 1926 — 100 Years of Shooting Tradition

The Bürger-Schützen-Verein Hamborn-Neumühl was founded in 1926 — at the height of the Weimar Republic, two years before the start of the Great Depression. Hamborn was still an independent town at the time (incorporated into Duisburg in 1929), and Neumühl was a district with a predominantly working-class population in heavy industry. The BSV emerged within this socio-historical context — as a civic element alongside trade unions and workers' associations, upholding the classic values of tradition and community care associated with shooting clubs.

The Anniversary Year 2026

2026 is a major anniversary year for the BSV Hamborn-Neumühl. The reigning shooting king — elected the previous year — will lead the club into the festival weekend. President Ulrich Kretschmer and Vice President Björn Geurtz have prepared a special program for the 100th anniversary: the anniversary Schützenfest is set to be significantly larger and more ambitious than regular shooting festivals — featuring an expanded festival tent, a special program, a larger live band, and an additional commemorative ceremony.

Festival Calendar July 10 to 13, 2026

The anniversary Schützenfest spans four days. Friday, July 10: Festival opening, start in the festival tent, first King's shooting. Saturday, July 11: Shooting club mass, assembly of the companies, highlight of the King's shooting, evening dance in the festival tent. Sunday, July 12: High mass, grand procession through Neumühl with the King and Queen and all companies, followed by a ceremony for the 100th anniversary with invited guests from Duisburg and the region. Monday, July 13: Coronation of the new monarch, King's Ball, closing festival.

Duisburg-Neumühl — Shooting District in the North

Duisburg-Neumühl is one of the northern districts of the large city of Duisburg (Ruhr area, North Rhine-Westphalia, independent city) — located within the Hamborn borough, characterized by predominantly residential and former heavy industrial buildings. The BSV Hamborn-Neumühl is one of the district's defining clubs — a pillar of community life alongside sports clubs, carnival societies, and church parishes.

Parallel: BSV Marxloh — A Second 100-Year Tradition

A remarkable parallel: the BSV Marxloh is also celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026 — from August 14 to 16. Both clubs were founded in 1926 and are celebrating concurrently. In the summer of 2026, the north of Duisburg will thus host a double Schützenfest anniversary.

Festival Tent and Program

As with any Rhineland Schützenfest, the festival tent is the focal point. Live music (party band, dance music, cover acts), draft beer, sausages, and snacks, King's dance, and public dance. The 2026 anniversary will be enhanced by an expanded stage program — detailed information will be announced by the BSV in the weeks leading up to the festival weekend.

Duisburg-Neumühl is located in the north of Duisburg, in the Hamborn borough. Public transport: Tram line 903 from Duisburg Hbf to Neumühl, or S-Bahn S 7 / S 16. By car: A 42 exit Duisburg-Hamborn or A 59 exit Duisburg-Neumühl. Parking is scarce during the festival weekend — public transport or park-and-ride recommended. Duisburg is connected nationwide via its main station with ICE/IC trains.
