A Classic Franconian Village Festival

The Brunnenfest Wettringen is a classic Franconian village festival – not a major tourist event, but an occasion supported by a single association and the entire village community. The organizer is the Soldaten- und Kameradschaftsverein Wettringen (Soldiers' and Comradeship Association), and the celebration takes place in the marquee directly on the market square of the community in the district of Ansbach (Middle Franconia).

Three Days with a Clear Role Each Day

• Friday: Pizza evening from 6:00 PM – a deliberately low-threshold start that brings families from the village and surrounding areas into the marquee phase.
• Saturday: from 7:00 PM, dance evening with catering and marquee music – the "big" evening of the weekend.
• Sunday: from 10:15 AM, festival service, followed by a communal lunch in the marquee; from 2:00 PM, coffee and cake; at 3:00 PM, the highlight of the day – the Brunnenlauf (fountain run), a relay and fun run that starts from the market square and is organized by the local running club »Tauberquellenflitzer«.

The Brunnenlauf as a Sporting Component

The Brunnenlauf makes the Wettringen Brunnenfest known in the Middle Franconian running scene: a relay race that combines a festival weekend and a sporting event in one. This is a proven combination in Franconian club life and ensures that the whole village is present on the market square on Sunday afternoon – some as athletes, others as spectators, and still others at the marquee.

Wettringen is a community in the district of Ansbach (West Middle Franconia) with just under 1,000 inhabitants. The region is characterized by agriculture and rural life, and the market square is the center of village life – with the parish church, inn, school, and the central fountain that gives the festival weekend its name.

The Brunnenfest thrives on its scale and volunteer spirit: a marquee, a central stage, one association responsible, supplemented by the parish community and the running club. Admission is free, the beer and food are regional, and the audience sits on beer benches in the market square and knows each other. This is precisely the charm – and the reason why such festivals in West Middle Franconia remain an integral part of summer club life to this day.
