Traditional Kirchweih in the Taubergrund — Franconian customs with Bügelkirchweih and Maibaumaufstellen
Insingen is a small municipality in the Taubergrund in the Ansbach district, located in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park. The Kirchweih (church consecration festival) is one of the fixed highlights of village life here — alongside the Maibaumaufstellen (Maypole raising) in spring and the Bügelkirchweih. It is living Franconian custom, supported by the village community and the municipality of Insingen.
The Franconian Kirchweih (»Kärwa«) is more than a folk festival: it combines a religious occasion, village tradition, and conviviality. In Insingen, the Kirchweih fits into a yearly cycle of traditional events, which also includes the Bügelkirchweih on the fourth Sunday in August — a local custom with a traditional character, catering, and entertainment.
During the festival days in October, there are festivities with Franconian catering, music, and convivial gatherings. Its manageable size is its special charm: a real village Kärwa where the whole community comes together — far from commercial large-scale events.
Insingen is located near Rothenburg ob der Tauber in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park. The rolling hills of the Taubergrund with hiking and cycling trails invite you to combine a visit to the Kärwa with a trip to the region — for example, to Rothenburg or to the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park.
