Literary Festival with Profile

The Weiden Literary Days are one of the most important literary festivals in the Oberpfalz and originated from an initiative by the Regional Library Weiden. For over ten days, they bring together German-speaking authors – from the fields of novels, non-fiction, poetry, crime fiction, fantasy, and cabaret – in the district town of Weiden in der Oberpfalz (AGS 09363). The festival is one of the oldest continuously organized literary series in Northern Bavaria.

Venues in the City

The main venue is the Regional Library Weiden, supplemented by the New Town Hall, bookstores, and cultural centers in the city. This distributes the readings across the city center, making the Literary Days an urban event series that fills the city center with life for several days in a row.

Theme and Programmatic Line

Each year, the festival carries its own thematic motto. In 2026, it is "Tale of Sun and Night" – the 38th edition is dedicated to exile, departure, and Jewish-Bavarian life paths. The programmatic line combines contemporary fiction with historical remembrance and political reportage.

Weiden in der Oberpfalz

Weiden is a district-free city in northeastern Bavaria and the cultural center of the northern Oberpfalz. With its baroque market square, the Old Town Hall, and the Regional Library, the city offers a compact festival landscape that is easily accessible on foot. The Literary Days contribute significantly to the city's literary self-understanding and position Weiden on the national cultural calendar.
