Blasmusikfest as part of the OEW Kultursommer and the district association festival
Brass im Gras is one of the most charming formats of the OEW Kultursommer in the Ravensburg district: an open-air concert that brings the traditional brass music of Upper Swabia to the meadow in front of the village, combining it with modern brass bands. In 2026, the festival will take place on Saturday, September 19, in the municipality of Riedhausen, in the Ebenweiler district — immediately following the summer concert series of the district's cultural centers.
The organizer is the Musikverein Ebenweiler e.V., which is hosting the festival together with the Ravensburg Brass Music District Association. Three brass bands will be on stage: Blechverrückt with their energetic mix of pop, rock, and polka adaptations, Jack Russel's Halsbänd with Upper Swabian humor, and Freibier as the headliner — one of the best-known modern brass combos in the region. The senior orchestra of the district association of brass bands will kick things off with classical marches and waltzes.
Brass im Gras is embedded in the OEW Kultursommer, a series organized by the cultural centers in the Ravensburg district. From June to September 2026, the program runs with the Isny Opera Festival (June 21–27), the International Wolfegg Concerts (June 26–28), the KBO Concert in Bad Wurzach (July 26), the Einhaldenfestival in Geratsreute (August 2 – 2), and Brass im Gras as the season finale on September 19.
Riedhausen, with just under 700 inhabitants, is located in the south of the Ravensburg district, about a 20-minute drive from Bad Saulgau. The municipality belongs to the Upper Swabia region, where brass music is not just music but a lived identity — almost every village has an active music club, and festivals like Brass im Gras are as much a part of the summer calendar as parades and morning pint concerts. In the state of Baden-Württemberg, Upper Swabia is thus one of the densest brass music landscapes of all.
The 2026 edition of Brass im Gras will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, on the festival grounds in Ebenweiler. The organizers are Musikverein Ebenweiler e.V. and the Ravensburg Brass Music District Association; the concert is part of the OEW Kultursommer, the annual cultural series of the district's cultural centers.
Integrated into the district association festival for brass bands, Brass im Gras combines the tradition of Upper Swabian music club culture with modern brass bands. Before the main concert, associations and youth bands from the region will perform, and in the evening, the brass line takes over.
Admission as announced by the organizer — usually as part of the OEW Kultursommer, by free donation or a small contribution. Current information at kultursommer.rv.de.
