Classical Music in Palaces, Churches, and Industrial Monuments
The Brandenburg Summer Concerts were founded in 1991 – today one of the oldest and most renowned classical music festivals in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The 35th season in 2026 runs from May 30th to August 31st with around 30 concerts at venues that every classical music lover should experience: palaces from Sanssouci to Rheinsberg, village churches of the Uckermark, industrial monuments like the Niederfinow Ship Lift.
The 2026 season begins on Saturday, May 30th, 2026, in the St. Nikolaikirche Luckau with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra. On the program: Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and the Ukrainian Baroque composer Maksym Berezovsky. A politically and musically strong start – and an indication of the program's philosophy: top-class performers in special venues, with a European horizon.
On Sunday, June 7th, 2026, at 5 PM, a special concert will take place in the Kutschstallhof of the House of Brandenburg-Prussian History on the Neuer Markt: Vibraphonist Oli Bott presents “Chronicles of Jazz” – a musical journey through jazz culture. Supporting program: Children's concert at 2 PM (free admission), lecture on GDR jazz culture at 3 PM, free museum admission with a concert ticket.
From July 8th to 12th, 2026, the 4th International Chamber Music Festival Fliessen will take place in the Spreewald and Niederlausitz regions as a festival-within-a-festival. It brings world-class soloists to the rural water landscape – including pianist Martin Helmchen and cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker. The combination of chamber music and the Spreewald landscape is one of the special hallmarks of the Brandenburg Summer Concerts.
The series' self-chosen motto – “Classical Music on a Countryside Tour” – precisely describes the concept: music, regional gastronomy, natural scenery, local associations, and patrons are woven into a holistic experience. Bus transfers from Berlin-U-Bahn Fehrbelliner Platz make the remote venues accessible to the capital's audience. The series is an example of how classical music can thrive in rural areas when the venues are understood as equal partners.
“Classical Music on a Countryside Tour” Format: Concerts often combined with regional gastronomy, palace tours, walks in park/natural settings.
Bus transfers from Berlin U-Bahn Fehrbelliner Platz to remote venues – registration via the festival website. By car: venues accessible via A10/A11/A12/A19/A24, depending on the concert. Train: venue-dependent (Potsdam, Luckau, Rheinsberg, Spreewald).
Tickets available via brandenburgische-sommerkonzerte.org or by phone at +49 30 890 434 36. Prices vary per concert (typically €15–€60). Children up to 14 years often receive discounts or free admission.
For those who want to combine classical music with landscape: plan a concert at Rheinsberg Palace or the Niederfinow Ship Lift. The bus transfers from Berlin are a convenient solution – travel + concert + return journey all in one.
