Ceramics, porcelain, and selected arts and crafts in the baroque city center
The Dutch Quarter in Potsdam is one of the state capital's most famous attractions: 134 two-story brick houses from the 18th century, built in the Dutch architectural style under Frederick William I for Dutch craftsmen. Today, galleries, cafés, boutiques, and workshops are located here – and on the last weekend of August, the quarter transforms into a large pottery market.
The Pottery and Arts and Crafts Market brings together around 90 ceramists and craftspeople from all over Germany and Central Europe. Approximately 50 stalls line Mittelstraße and Benkertstraße. The offerings range from traditional pottery to artistic ceramics and innovative design – vessels, tableware, sculptures, porcelain, jewelry.
The event combines traditional pottery, artistic ceramics, and innovative design. Many exhibitors demonstrate their work live – and some stalls offer the chance to try out a potter's wheel. Visitors stroll through the quarter, shop, watch, and enjoy the cultural ambiance.
The Dutch Quarter is one of Potsdam's café hotspots. During the market, cafés and restaurants open their outdoor seating areas and extend their menus with regional specialties. Pommes Sauerkraut, Dutch cake, Brandenburg beer – the mix of tradition and cultural bustle is part of the atmosphere.
The pottery market is one of the most important arts and crafts markets in the state of Brandenburg. Unlike Christmas markets, it appeals to an audience interested in craftsmanship, materials, and form – collectors, designers, homeowners. In the independent city of Potsdam, within the context of UNESCO World Heritage, it is an event that ceramic lovers from all over Germany mark on their calendars.
