Ukrainian Cultural Days Potsdam

A Festival from Brandenburg's Ukrainian Community

Since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, a strong Ukrainian diaspora community has developed in Potsdam and Brandenburg. The Ukrainian Cultural Days Potsdam are its most visible cultural format — embedded in the social and cultural commitment of the AWO District Association Potsdam, which has been providing numerous aid, advisory, and cultural services for refugees and for understanding between German and Ukrainian society since 2022.

Literature, Music, Theatre, Film, Workshops

The festival program is intentionally broad, combining Ukrainian literature (readings, translations), music (folk music, choirs, contemporary classical, pop), theatre (often with bilingual performances), film (documentary and feature films), exhibitions, workshops for language and dance, and traditional cuisine. This makes the diversity of Ukrainian culture visible and avoids reducing it to a single cliché.

Organizing Structure

The organizer is the AWO District Association Potsdam e.V., in cooperation with other organizations such as DaMOst e.V., the Ukrainian association PUSH-UA e.V., and the Ukrainian Community of Potsdam. This network ensures that the festival originates from the community and offers an internal perspective of the diaspora rather than an external one on Ukraine.

Alte Druckerei as a Venue

The venue for the most recent edition was the Alte Druckerei in Sellostraße — a socio-cultural centre in northern Potsdam that is suitable for bridge formats between associations, diaspora groups, and the city society. In 2026, a venue with a workshop atmosphere is also likely.

Funding by the State Capital Potsdam

The City of Potsdam has included the Ukrainian Cultural Days in its festival funding program for 2026 — one of twelve festivals supported by the city. The exact date for 2026 had not yet been confirmed at the time of festival registration; in previous years, the festival typically took place in September.
