Dragon boat, canoe, and cardboard boat races directly on the Main river
The Bootshausfest of DJK Kleinwallstadt has been held every year in mid-July since 1983 and is considered one of the most original club festivals in the Miltenberg district in Bavaria. The venue is the club's boathouse on Rohestraße – directly on the Main river, in the immediate vicinity of the Kleinwallstadt weir, between the Main cycle path and the water. Shady oak trees, beer garden atmosphere, and the view of the river shape the romantic ambiance.
The heart of the festival is the boat races. In the dragon boat race, mixed teams from clubs, companies, and groups of friends compete against each other on a course. In the canoe race, crews of two or four battle for the best time. However, the Wällschter Pappbootrennen (cardboard boat race) offers the most fun: here, young people, school classes, clubs, and families build a self-designed boat from precisely defined materials, which must not only be seaworthy but also impress a jury of experts visually.
A festival tent with live bands, DJ sets, and a Sunday morning pint ('Frühschoppen') ensures a great atmosphere on all three festival days. Franconian specialties are served on the boathouse terrace: hearty sausages, fries, pizza, and burgers, as well as regional beers and wines from the Lower Main region. For children, there is a bouncy castle, a wheel of fortune, and hands-on activities by the water.
DJK Kleinwallstadt is a traditional sports community with a focus on canoeing and water sports. The Bootshausfest is its most important summer event and largely finances the club's activities. After a pandemic-related break in 2020 and 2021, the club celebrated a triumphant restart in 2022. In 2026, the 42nd Bootshausfest will coincide with the 70th anniversary of DJK Kleinwallstadt, providing an additional reason for celebratory cheer.
For its 42nd edition in 2026, the Bootshausfest coincides with the 70th anniversary of DJK Kleinwallstadt. The club has announced that this double event will be celebrated with a particularly festive program.
Boat races will take place on all three days: the 11th Wällschter Pappbootrennen with self-built boats from specified materials, plus dragon boat races for clubs and companies, and canoe races. The program will be accompanied by live bands, DJ nights, a festival tent with Franconian cuisine, and a Sunday morning pint ('Frühschoppen'). There will be a special children's program right by the jetty for families.
Saturday, July 18, 2026: Festival opening in the afternoon, dragon boat races from late afternoon, live band in the festival tent in the evening.
Sunday, July 19, 2026: Morning pint ('Frühschoppen') with brass music, 11th Wällschter Pappbootrennen in the afternoon, canoe races, festival tent evening.

Admission to the 2026 Bootshausfest is free. Food and drinks will be sold in the festival tent and on the boathouse terrace at usual club prices. Registration for active participation in the cardboard boat race and dragon boat races via the club's website.
Kleinwallstadt is located between Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg on the Bavarian Lower Main in the Miltenberg district. Take the train to Aschaffenburg and then the Westfrankenbahn (RB 86) to Kleinwallstadt – about a 10-minute walk from the station to the boathouse. By car, take the B 469 (Kleinwallstadt exit). Those traveling on two wheels can reach the boathouse directly via the Main cycle path.
Admission to the Bootshausfest is free. Pre-registration with the club is required for active participation in the cardboard boat and dragon boat races.
The most romantic way to arrive is by boat directly to the boathouse jetty. Due to its shady location under the oak trees, the festival is pleasant even on hot summer days. Sturdy footwear is recommended, as the riverbank area is natural.
