Schlager afternoon with hits from the 1970s at Altleiningen Castle in the Leiningerland
Altleiningen Castle was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Leiningen and sits enthroned on the southern edge of the Palatinate Forest. Today, it houses a youth hostel and a cultural meeting point where the Altleiningen Castle Games have been holding their performances for many years. The theatre hall within the castle walls offers the perfect ambiance for the Theatercafé, a special event series by the Castle Games.
The current Theatercafé is titled "Schlagercocktail" and is dedicated to German Schlager music from the 1970s. The program features songs by Cindy und Bert, Michael Holm, Wencke Myhre, and many other artists from that era. The ensemble performs the hits live, interspersed with short stories and anecdotes from the time. The nostalgic atmosphere is enhanced by the café setting.
What makes the Theatercafé special is its combination of stage and café: during the performance, coffee and homemade cake are served. Guests sit at tables, can chat, and enjoy the music at the same time. This form of afternoon theatre has made the format a popular tradition, especially for an older audience and for families.
With the current edition, the Theatercafé enters its 12th season. The ensemble of the Altleiningen Castle Games, supported by volunteer citizens, has further developed the format over the years and given it changing themes. The close connection with the audience from the region has remained an essential characteristic.
With its 12th edition, the Theatercafé continues its successful course. The program combines the nostalgic Schlager hits of the 1970s with the relaxed setting of a café afternoon. The ensemble of the Castle Games brings the well-known songs to life on stage, accompanied by anecdotes and stories from the Schlager scene of those years.
Five afternoon performances allow guests from the region to choose a suitable date. The performances are designed to be almost identical.
The complete setlist program is created by the ensemble independently and may vary slightly depending on the date.
