Swinging Schifferstadt

Swinging Schifferstadt is one of the most original festival formats in the Rhein-Pfalz district. Instead of one large stage with a central headliner, the live music is spread across six different venues in Schifferstadt's city center – restaurants, pubs, bars, and cafés that transform into concert venues for one night.

Six Bands, Six Stages, Six Venues

The festival presents six bands in six venues in Schifferstadt's city center. The participating restaurateurs provide their spaces or outdoor areas as stages and ensure the audience is catered for. Starting at 7:30 PM, the 45-minute sets begin, spread throughout the evening. Visitors can move between the venues and create their own festival tour.

Jazz, Swing, and Blues

The musical repertoire ranges from classic jazz and swing to bebop, cool jazz, and modern jazz, as well as blues and occasionally soul or funk. The bands come from the region, often from the Palatinate and Rhine-Neckar area, and sometimes from further afield. Swinging Schifferstadt thus offers a high-quality selection of jazz, swing, and blues acts that would otherwise not be experienced in such concentration in Schifferstadt.

Free Admission

A particular strength of the festival is the free admission. Swinging Schifferstadt is financed by the city of Schifferstadt – Stadtmarketing in cooperation with the participating restaurateurs and sponsors. This makes the festival accessible to all population groups and underlines the democratic character of Schifferstadt's cultural events.

City Revitalization as a Festival Goal

In addition to its cultural aspirations, Swinging Schifferstadt also pursues a city marketing strategic goal: revitalizing the city center on a summer evening, promoting the local gastronomy and retail sector, and connecting the people of Schifferstadt with their restaurateurs. The festival is thus a prime example of innovative urban cultural formats.

Schifferstadt's Summer Culture

Swinging Schifferstadt is part of the 'Sattelstadt's' rich summer cultural program. In July, the Picknickkonzerte (Picnic Concerts) take place as an open-air format, followed by the jazz festival in August. In September, the Obst- und Gemüsetag (Fruit and Vegetable Day), the Oktoberfest, and the Kunsthandwerkermarkt (Arts and Crafts Market) follow. This makes Schifferstadt one of the most vibrant festival locations in the Rhein-Pfalz district.
