Franconian wine festival on the Main meadows — three wine families, four days, Silvaner homeland Churfranken
Großwallstadt is located in the Miltenberg district in the state of Bavaria, on the Bavarian Untermain between the Odenwald and Spessart forests, and thus on the western edge of the Franconian wine region Churfranken. Those who don't equate the Franconia region solely with Würzburg or Volkach know: some of Franconia's most exciting Silvaner wines grow here — and this is precisely the wine that takes center stage at the Weinberghüttenfest.
The special feature of the Weinberghüttenfest is its organizational structure: three local wine families host the festival together. Participating are:
Cooperation instead of competition. Three stands, three assortments, one venue — visitors can compare directly, from Riesling to Silvaner to Spätburgunder, ideally in conversation with the vintner themselves.
Classically, the festival was celebrated in the vineyard — hence the name. Since 2022, the event has been held on the Main meadows in Mainstraße due to acute forest fire risk. The relocation has proven successful: more space, direct view of the Main, better infrastructure. The festival atmosphere — wood, fairy lights, picnic benches — remains.
Four days, four moods. Friday and Monday are dominated by live bands, Saturday is traditionally dedicated to a brass band, and Sunday is the "representative" day with an appearance by the Franconian wine royalty and the Großwallstadt Music Association. The wines are accompanied by typical Franconian festival cuisine — bratwurst, cheese, bread, Saumagen, and delicacies.
The Weinberghüttenfest is part of the dense wine festival calendar of the Churfranken region — an initiative by the Bavarian Untermain vintners who market their Silvaner tradition under the label "Silvanerheimat." Those planning a weekend can easily combine the festival with visits to Klingenberg, Erlenbach, or Großheubach.
The dates for 2026 (July 24–27) have been confirmed by the organizer and the Silvanerheimat Churfranken platform. As is traditional on the fourth weekend in July, the three Großwallstadt wine families Weinbau Karrer, Weingut Gigerich, and VineaMea (Benjamin Spilger) invite you to the 41st Weinberghüttenfest on the Main meadows.
The detailed hourly program (band performance times, reception of wine royalty) will be communicated in the weeks leading up to the festival on franken-silvanerheimat.de and on the Instagram channel.
