The Kirchweih, affectionately called “Kerwa” in Franconia, is one of the most important traditional festivals in the communities of Lower Franconia. In Elsenfeld, a market town in the Miltenberg district in the state of Bavaria on the Bavarian Lower Main, between Spessart and Odenwald, the Kirchweih is an integral part of annual customs.

Date According to Würzburg Tradition

In Elsenfeld, the Kirchweih is celebrated according to the tradition of the Diocese of Würzburg on the second Sunday in November. This uniform date regulation – the “Allerweltskirchweih” (All Saints' Day Kirchweih) – was historically introduced to organize the multitude of local Kirchweih dates and still shapes the Kirchweih calendar of many Lower Franconian communities today.

The Kirchweih traditionally includes the Kirchweih church service, social gatherings in the inns and at local clubs, and seasonal Franconian specialties.
