A festival for the whole neighbourhood
Once a year, the Quartiersfest Robinsbalje brings the neighbourhood in Bremen's Huchting district together. It is organised by the Robinsbalje Community Education Centre (QBZ), an institution of the Hans-Wendt-Stiftung, which has served as a contact point for children and families on the grounds of the Grundschule an der Robinsbalje since 2009. The festival is a fixed date in the event calendar of the state of Bremen and a vibrant example of community engagement.
Get involved, don't just watch
On the school grounds, initiatives, organisations, and committed individuals from the neighbourhood present themselves – preferably with activities for children and families. The programme includes creative hands-on activities, a small stage with an open mic, a parents' café offering advice and information, a bouncy castle, and various sports activities for children. Turkish specialities and drinks are among the culinary offerings. The atmosphere is deliberately informal: the aim is for everyone to participate, not just to watch.
An education centre as host
The QBZ Robinsbalje sees itself as a bridge to education, offering courses and advice on pregnancy, infants, and toddlers – primarily aimed at families with children from birth to twelve years old. It also hosts BRISE, the Bremen initiative to promote early childhood development. The Quartiersfest showcases the offerings of the QBZ and its partners: close cooperation exists with the school, the Robinsbalje Children and Family Centre (Kita Bremen), the Familienhaus Huchting, and the Children and Youth Health Service of the Bremen Health Department.
Neighbourhood in Huchting
Huchting, in the south of Bremen, is a district with a diverse population. The Quartiersfest strengthens social cohesion here: it brings residents from different backgrounds together and makes the district's committed social network tangible. Admission is free, the festival lasts for an afternoon, and is explicitly aimed at all generations – a warm, down-to-earth neighbourhood festival in the state of Bremen.
