Concert summer in the inner courtyard of Schwerin Castle
The inner courtyard of Schwerin Castle is one of Northern Germany's most impressive open-air venues. Framed by the neo-Renaissance architecture of the residential ensemble – a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2024 – the courtyard transforms into an open-air concert stage in late summer. The organizer is Kulturbotschafter Events.
The Schlossgarten Open Airs focus on musical diversity: rock, pop, reggae, electronic music, folk, and literary readings alternate over several weeks. The 2026 program runs from August 13 to September 13 and includes:
With this open-air series, Schwerin positions itself as a concert city in the summer that, as regional media note, even surpasses some major cities. The state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern hosts several open-air series in August and September, including the Pappelpark Open Airs. The inner courtyard of the castle offers arguably the most spectacular ambiance.
The intimate size of the courtyard ensures a special concert experience: the audience stands or sits close to the stage, surrounded by historic facades. As dusk falls, the illuminated castle backdrop unfolds its full effect.
For over a month, Kulturbotschafter Events transforms the inner courtyard of Schwerin Castle into an open-air stage. The 2026 program ranges from indie and rock to reggae, electronic music, folk, and literary readings.
Highlights include Tocotronic with the »Golden Years Open Airs« (August 13), Saltatio Mortis (August 15), Gentleman (August 16), Maxïmo Park (August 19), The Dead South (August 29), Gogol Bordello (August 30), Philipp Poisel (September 3), and Schiller with »Sommerklang« (September 6). Lars Eidinger will read Brecht on August 25.
Ticket prices range from around 20 euros to over 70 euros, depending on the concert. Sales via Kulturbotschafter Events.
Schwerin Castle is located on the Schlossinsel (Castle Island) in the city center, about a 15-minute walk from the main train station. Reachable by regional express from Hamburg, Rostock, Berlin, and Lübeck. Parking garages are available in the city center.
Prices vary depending on the concert, ranging from around 20 euros (Rudelsingen) to over 70 euros (Saltatio Mortis). Sales are through Kulturbotschafter Events and usual ticket retailers.
The concerts take place outdoors – weatherproof clothing is recommended. A visit to the Castle Museum can be nicely combined with the concert evening.
