Schwerin – Germany's Newest World Heritage Site
In 2024, the Schwerin Residence Ensemble was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. The ensemble, comprising the palace, gardens, theatre, museums, and administrative buildings, is considered an exceptionally well-preserved testament to 19th-century courtly culture. This makes the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Germany's newest World Heritage site.
From One Day to a Festival Week
In 2025, Schwerin celebrated World Heritage Day for the first time as a single-day event with over 25 guided tours around the Residence Ensemble. In 2026, this will evolve into a multi-day format: The "Schwerin World Heritage Days" will take place from June 1st to 7th, under the motto "Together for Peace and Understanding". For an entire week, international encounters, concerts, guided tours, exhibitions, and hands-on activities will be featured.
