In 2025, Schwerin celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Day for the first time as Germany's newest World Heritage site. On June 1st, there were over 25 guided tours around the Residence Ensemble – the kickoff to the multi-day format of the World Heritage Days starting in 2026.
On June 1st, 2025, Schwerin celebrated the nationwide UNESCO World Heritage Day for the first time as a recognized World Heritage site. The Residence Ensemble had been added to the World Heritage List in 2024.
On this single day, over 25 guided tours offered insights into the Residence Ensemble and its history. The great response led the city to expand the format in 2026 into a full festival week, the "Schwerin World Heritage Days".
