Four Weeks of Advent Market

The Vechta Christmas Market runs for a full four weeks from November 23 to December 23, making it one of the longest Advent markets in the Oldenburg Münsterland region. The opening on Monday evening at 5 p.m. by the mayor has been a fixed date in the city calendar for years and brings together dignitaries, exhibitors, and the public for a festive start.

Europaplatz and Alter Markt

The market is spread across two central squares in the city center: Europaplatz with the large stage, outdoor gastronomy, and the central Christmas tree, and Alter Markt with the arts and crafts and catering stands. Both squares are connected by the historic pedestrian zone, allowing for a complete circuit that creates a cohesive market atmosphere.

Ice Rink in a Tent

A special feature of Vechta is the ice rink housed in a specially erected tent next to the Propsteikirche St. Georg. The covered ice surface can be used in rain and snow, making the Vechta Christmas Market a family experience with its own sporting accent. Skate rental, ice disco evenings, and children's courses complement the offering.

Children's Carousel and St. Nicholas Boot Action

For the youngest visitors, a nostalgic children's carousel is located in the market center. On the eve of St. Nicholas Day, the traditional boot action takes place: children can leave their boots around the market area, and the next morning, St. Nicholas fills them with sweets and small gifts.

Exhibitors and Catering

More than sixty exhibitor stalls offer mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes, fried dough, crêpes, Christmas decorations, handmade arts and crafts, jewelry, woodwork, honey, and regional specialties. Clubs, non-profit organizations, and commercial providers share the stand spaces. Musical contributions from local choirs, schools, and brass bands complement the program.
