Hamburg-West with Elbe River View
Blankenese has always been Hamburg's maritime flagship. The district in Altona, with its stairways on the Elbe slope, captain's houses, and hotels, is one of the Hanseatic city's most sought-after addresses. Once a year, Blankenese opens up to the entire western part of Hamburg with the street festival – a traditional neighbourhood festival that turns Blankeneser Bahnhofstraße into a festival mile up to Elbchaussee.
The 2026 Programme
Around 90 stalls stretch over several hundred metres:
- Music: Hamburg music schools perform on several stages – classical, jazz, pop, and rock
- Children's Programme: Bouncy castle, games, hands-on activities, face painting
- Sports Demonstrations: Local clubs showcase karate, yoga, and dance
- Flea Market: Private second-hand market with bargains from the neighbourhood
- Food Trucks: Street food stalls with fries, crêpes, burgers, and maritime cuisine – with a view of the Elbe
- Local Businesses: Boutiques, cafés, and restaurants open their doors towards the pavement
A Tradition of the Interest Group
The organiser is BLANKENESE Interessen-Gemeinschaft e.V., the association of local business people and residents who have represented the neighbourhood for decades. The street festival is the association's most important event and, at the same time, an advertising platform for the Bahnhofstraße retailers. Proceeds partly flow to local projects and initiatives.
Getting to Blankenese
S-Bahn lines S1 or S11 to Blankenese – the festival mile starts right in front of the station on Blankeneser Bahnhofstraße. By car via Elbchaussee, parking spaces are scarce in the neighbourhood; public transport is recommended. Admission to the street festival is free. The festival will take place even in bad weather.
